My personal experiences with the topic of my dissertation

This is a topic I a really interested in, I think this is because I have been in an environment where there are professional athletes, as well as I was not the healthiest child.

When I was younger, even though I did dance, I was still classed as over-weight. This is mainly because my diet was horrendous, I would eat a bag of sweets per day, which makes me cringe thinking about it. When I started to get more serious about dance I decided to change my diet, to be a bit more healthy, especially since if I wanted to ever do dance professionally it is quite cut-throat and they usually prefer their dancers to be very slim.

I have been a dancer since I was 9/10, but started to take it more seriously when I was around 15 years old. At this time I began to move around to different dance studios around the country, where I would learn new dance types, however I had a main studio in York. It was always a massive choice between what I wanted to pursue in my future, I ultimately chose media and graphic design as it's an easier career than dance. I also chose this after dancing at the Urdang Academy over summer once, where I moved to London to be able to do their summer programme. Doing that programme made me realise that I want dance to be a part of my future, but it is a difficult career to pursue. Even now though while being at university I will go back to my dance studio and help them out, choreographing or performing with them.

This is the reason that I chose this topic for my dissertation, both parts of the project are something that I am interested in. It excites me that I am able to mix two of my favourite things, media and dance. 😊
