Final reflection

I think at the beginning of this project I found it easy to come up with ideas, especially since it is an open brief. I originally wanted to do this project about mental health, however I am very happy with the change that I made and the direction that I am currently going in, this is because it is a huge interest for me and links to something that I am very passionate about, dance. I did, however, find that there were not many lectures or lessons really for this project, we did get feedback on our ideas, but I still feel as if I do not understand parts of this project fully, such a referencing.  I have really enjoyed researching into my topic and found it relatively easy to do so. I did however, struggle a lot writing the actual proposal, I just really struggled to actually write it and could not seem to come up with the right words, I think with the whole pandemic going on currently it has been really difficult to sit down and just write out the essay. It is just a very di...

Consumerism- shift to healthy

https://blog.euromonitor.com/megatrend-healthy-living/ "Healthy living is shifting beyond just physical health to represent a much more holistic view, where food, exercise, mental well-being and broader lifestyle issues are seen as a whole entity." "Technology plays a pivotal role in consumer decision-making and the ability of manufacturers and retailers to meet the needs of today's consumer. Advancements in technology are increasing the possibility of living longer and having more prosperous lives, as well as providing people with the means to autonomously manage Teri own well-beings." " Devices, digital platforms and science evolution are facilitating health tracking, diagnosis, general health awareness and personalised prevention concepts. For example, Go Forward, Inc. is an integrated health subscription service in the USA that provides access to medical professionals on demand, providing health data via an app-based platform for consumers to trac...

Consumerism- Adverts

Since reading the notes Kat left on my dissertation draft, she suggested looking into consumerism and how adverts show unhealthy foods. "Every hour kids spend online increases chance of buying junk food by a fifth," reports The Daily Telegraph." " A Cancer Research UK survey of almost 2,500 children found those who used the internet or watched commercial television for more than half an hour a day were more likely to ask for, buy or eat junk food (food high in fat, salt and sugar)." "Researchers found the primary school-age children surveyed spent an average of 16 hours a week on the internet. They found 4 of the 5 most popular websites the children used were commercial sites that display online advertising.  That compares to an average of 22 hours of television a week, 12 hours of which was on commercial channels that show adverts. In an online survey, the researchers asked 2,471 children aged 7 to 11, plus 1 parent per child, about: time...

Technology is making us less active

I decided to look into how technology is making us lazy and less active. Technology can be abused. After Tesla autopilot, numerous drivers were caught sleeping or texting while driving, some resulting in crashes. https://medium.com/digital-society/is-technology-making-us-lazy-ec3a3e58140a I then found this article that mentions 11 ways that technology has made us more lazy, these being: 1. A massive amount of entertainment without leaving the sofa 2. Restaurant food delivery 3. Online shopping 4. Checking in with loved ones without really checking in 5. Quality time with friends 6. Journalists mining for stories 7. No more running your own errands 8. No more pursuing the book store 9. No more waiting on hold with 1-800 numbers 10. News at your fingertips 11. No more getting lost or asking for directions https://thenextweb.com/lifehacks/2011/08/15/11-ways-tech-has-made-us-lazy/ https://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/has-technology-made-lazy-and-dependent.html

Covid19 and health

Image
I decided to look into how COVID19 has affected the health and exercise that people do. I personally before even researching it fully think that this has helped everyone to get more active. This is because the only reason people can currently go out since lockdown is to go food shopping once a week, and to do their daily exercise, this is almost forcing people to be more active as when they go out they are always gonna be doing one type of exercise. Another reason I think this is because since everyone has so much time now they are thinking more about being active, even seeing the sheer amount of fitness videos on Youtube now shows this to be true. When looking into it I found that lots of sites that sell exercise equipment or clothing most of them are sold out. When looking on Argos I found this sign on the page. Which agrees with my narrative that people are being more active in this time. https://nutrition.org/how-to-stay-fit-and-healthy-during-coronavirus-covid-19-pandemic/ h...

Psychology behind being sedentary

"In a recent, independent survey of 1001 British workers, it was found that 87% spent at least six hours of uninterrupted sitting time per day, getting up only for a drink or bathroom visit." " Apparently, UK workers dislike being forced to sit long hours at work. When asked to choose what sacrifices they would be prepared to make to “sit less at work”, more than a fifth (21.4%) said they would give up access to social media and nearly 13% would give up an entire day’s holiday." " Because of modern-day technology, our work-styles and lifestyles are abundant in sedentary behaviour. But simply blaming technology oversimplifies the problem." " 20 million British citizens are not getting the recommended amounts of exercise " https://www.personneltoday.com/hr/understanding-the-mindset-behind-sedentary-lifestyles/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/reader/0367186802/ref=rdr_sb_li_hist_1&state=01111

Copywritten music

I decided to look into copy-written music, as it is a big issue with what I want to create for my artefact, as it would mean that my posts could potentially get taken down, which would mean that nobody would see them which means that it would not have the desired outcome. So,  I looked into what copyrighting is as to ensure that I have a good understanding of what it is and what I might have to deal with. Copyright of a musical work begins automatically once a piece of music is created and documented or recorded. In the UK, this is detailed in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. There is no official method to copyright work in the UK. However, evidence of creation and ownership can be created by electronic emailing or saving of the work, which will provide a time-stamped copy. As the owner of the work you have sole authority to: - Copy the music - Issue, lend or rent copies to the public - Perform, show or play the music in public - Communicate the music to th...

Royalty free music

Since this project revolves around making dances for social media, I need to have songs that these dances are for. However, as I wrote about in one of my other blog posts, there is a big thing about music being copyrighted and people not being allowed to use them. To combat this I decided to look into royalty free music, which is free to use and won't get copy-written. https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/2 https://filmstro.com/music https://freemusicarchive.org However, if I am going to be using primarily TikTok then I will be fine using any music, as the app pays a license to use music freely on the app. https://www.quora.com/Why-can-Apps-like-TikTok-exist-with-copyrighted-music-but-on-YouTube-you-can-not-use-any-copyrighted-music

Celebrities and influencer making fitness interesting

"30% of consumers   are likely to purchase a product endorsed by a non-celebrity." I found an article that listed 10 fitness influencers. https://grin.co/blog/10-top-instagram-fitness-influencers-to-inspire-you/ "The hottest and most coveted job in 2018 is a job that did not exist five years ago." " Influencers are ordinary people who have become famous by using social media to create loyal followers." Being an influencer became a real job due to how social media has changed how we perceive and process digital content.  1. Access Platforms  like Instagram and YouTube have permitted a new degree of accessibility that was never possible before. This new level of connectivity has created a global community that exchanges ideas and information. Just like how celebrities spark public intrigue, fitness influencers can do the same thing by projecting their everyday lives and routines. 2. Relatability Influencers at their core are regular people ...

My personal experiences with the topic of my dissertation

This is a topic I a really interested in, I think this is because I have been in an environment where there are professional athletes, as well as I was not the healthiest child. When I was younger, even though I did dance, I was still classed as over-weight. This is mainly because my diet was horrendous, I would eat a bag of sweets per day, which makes me cringe thinking about it. When I started to get more serious about dance I decided to change my diet, to be a bit more healthy, especially since if I wanted to ever do dance professionally it is quite cut-throat and they usually prefer their dancers to be very slim. I have been a dancer since I was 9/10, but started to take it more seriously when I was around 15 years old. At this time I began to move around to different dance studios around the country, where I would learn new dance types, however I had a main studio in York. It was always a massive choice between what I wanted to pursue in my future, I ultimately chose media and...

Good and bad social media marketing campaigns

I wanted to look into some good and bad social media campaigns so that I could see what works and what doesn't. This will help me to know what to do and what not to do when making my campaign. I found this article that had some good and bad ones: https://digital-matchbox.com/learn-best-worst-social-media-campaigns-ever/ Good The old spice guy Q&A This is a well known social media marketing campaign from 2010, where they chose former NFL player Isaiah Mustafa to become the new 'face' of the company. He was named the 'Old Spice Guy' and was meant to embody the ideal man, whom would be using their product. He had just the right amount of weirdness, humour, and meme-worthy lines in their TV commercials for the generation to appreciate, the brand then took it a step further by encouraging their social media followers to come up with questions for him. What they did good was they assigned a person to their brand, which made it so that people could relate w...

Social media dance trends

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmbCbWq0mm8 There are a multitude of dance crazes throughout the years, not only on social media. However it has become a massive thing that is associated with social media. I decided to do some research into them, since that is part of my artefact, and it helps me to see what made these dances so viral. 2010: The Dougie- this is from a song called 'Teach me how to Dougie' by a group called Cali Swagg District. The dance was named after the famous rapper Doug E. Fresh, who was known for dancing in his performances.  2011: Cat Daddy- this is a dance that came from Californian-based rap group, the Rej3ctz. 2012: Gangnam style- this is a song that was released by K-Pop singer PSY, in 2012.  2013: Harlem Shake- this is a dance that became a viral meme. The dance mixed two dances called 'Humpin' and 'The Bernie'. 2014: Shmoney dance- Rapper Bobby Shmurda came out with the single that incorporated the 'Schmo...
