Question ideas

For my question I want it be about how a sedentary life has become the norm and how we can use social media to encourage people to become active. Kat suggested this question, however I don't think it fully fits with what I want to write about. It seems to be aimed more towards social media being a massive influence, however I want to write more about people becoming less active and how a social media campaign can influence people. "How does social media influence young people and how can we use it to encourage them to be more active?" I decided to think more after/while I wrote my dissertation because I just didn't know how to work it properly. But in the end I decided that my final question is going to be: How had a sedentary lifestyle become the norm, and how can we use technology to encourage people to become more active?

Notes on my dissertation proposal

I got the feedback from Kat today for my essay. Kat helped a lot actually, and it helped me to know that I am going in the write direction with what I am currently writing and other places that I could include stuff. Now I am just gonna continue in the direction I was going, research more on the topics I mentioned in the notes I wrote, and write another initial version.

Change4Life

When doing research into different campaigns and companies that are within the health care field, one that instantly came to mind was Change4Life. I remember watching tv as a child and seeing adverts for them, as well as learning about them in school. Change4Life is a public health programme started in January 2009, based in England. It was the First Nation social marketing campaign to be created in England to directly be aimed at the causes of obesity. They have 6 healthy behaviours that they encourage families to begin doing: 1. 5 a day- 5 fruits or veg each day 2. 400, 600, 600- This is where they try to stick to these calorie intakes for each meal, so Breakfast 400 calories, Lunch 600, and Dinner 600 3. Watch the salt- Keeping salt less than 6g per day for adults 4. Cut back fat- Reducing the amount of saturated fat in your diet 5. Sugar swaps- Reducing the amount of sugar you have 6. 100 calorie snacks- 2 per day They have a variety of different marketing approaches, ...

Target audience analysis

To be able to write about what I want as my final artefact, I have to know exactly who it's going to be aimed towards. This is why I have done a target audience analysis. A target audience is a specific group of people that you want to reach with your marketing message. They are people who are more likely to buy your products or services, and they are united by some common characteristics, like demographics and behaviours. The more clearly you define your target group, the better you can understand how and where to reach your best prospects. Age- 13-20, this is because I want them to be old enough to use social media, and younger people are more likely to complete a challenge. Also, if I aim younger, it is better because they are more easy to change habits within. Gender- Most likely female as they are typically pushed more towards dancing, however males may also do them. Location- The UK and US, most likely as TikTok is an international app there is no saying who will do...

School sports curriculum research

I wanted to some basic research into what is taught to children about being active and nutrition, and the place I remember learning about these topics was in PE (Physical Education). So I looked for some curriculums for PE in the UK. This is for key stages 1 and 2, which is primary school ages. " A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect." "The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils: develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities are physically active for sustained periods of time engage in competitive sports and activities lead healthy, active lives....

Research into costs on the NHS for obesity and other relating health conditions

"Global obesity rates have tripled since 1975, and the UK ranks among the worst in Europe" " Nearly two-thirds of adults in England are overweight or obese. In 2016/17, 617,000 admissions to NHS hospitals recorded obesity as a primary or secondary diagnosis" "  The NHS will therefore provide a targeted support offer and  access to weight management services in primary care for people with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes or hypertension with a BMI of 30+ " " By 2022/23, we also expect to treat up to a further 1,000 children a year for severe complications related to their obesity, such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, sleep apnoea and poor mental health" " The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme supports those at high risk of type 2 diabetes to reduce their risk. A joint commitment by NHS England, Public Health England (PHE) and Diabetes UK, the programme is the largest undertaking of its kind in the world and over 100,000 people ...

NCT 127 dance cover competition and other similar initiatives research

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1377526255627899 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Vp-FqpzjlI In August 2017, the band NCT 127 released a song called 'Cherry bomb' as a marketing campaign they created a dance cover contest to go along side the release of the song. The initiative was that they released a version of their dance which their fans would recreate, video and post on YouTube so they could react to them. This created a buzz with the fans because of course they would want their dance to be seen by a band that they love. Since lots of fans will have re-created the dance it means that their song would get out there more and it basically gets free advertisement. The video of them announcing the competition gained 2.8 million views, and the video of them reacting to the dance covers gained 2.9 million. These kind of competitions are done a lot, especially in the Kpop community. This is because they are basically free advertising for the song.

Tiktok dance trends research

What is TikTok? TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service, similar to Vine or Musical.ly. It was founded in 2012, and is predominantly used to create short dance, lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. It originally launched in September 2016, for the Chinese market, then it was launched for IOS and Android in markets outside of China. On 2nd August 2018 it merged with Musical.ly. After merging the downloads rose and TikTok became the most downloaded app in the US in October 2018. In 2019, media outlets cited TikTok as the 7th-most-downloaded mobile app of the decade, and it was even the most-downloaded app on the App Store in 2018 and 2019. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TikTok Dance trends on the app https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqwsEilhhhs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un5NR2oe0Ms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynFEtXmGwkY https://www.insider.com/tiktok-dances-renegade-say-so-and-more-19-top-2020-3 There are lots of dances that have gone '...

Initial bullet points for the dissertation proposal

I have been struggling to actually write an initial proposal, so I just noted down what I am intending to put in each section of it, this helps me as a general guide on what I should write. I am going to send this to Kat as well to get feedback on it all.  Question? (Still need to choose question) Something along the lines of how to encourage young people to get more active through social media? Or something.  Introduction- •   Why you have chosen this question. “At least 2.8 million adults die each year as a result of being overweight or obese” (Add ref) (Talk about how that statistic correlates to the topic on a whole) •   Does it have a personal relation to you? (Talk about how I was very sedentary before I broke that habit, and how it’s difficult to do so when it is not taught to you properly when a child, also mention that since I have a dance background the differences I noticed between me and the professiona...
