School sports curriculum research
I wanted to some basic research into what is taught to children about being active and nutrition, and the place I remember learning about these topics was in PE (Physical Education). So I looked for some curriculums for PE in the UK.
This is for key stages 1 and 2, which is primary school ages.
"A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect."
"The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

These are all the guide lines from the GOV.UK that I could find. However, from what I've read it seems as if there are basic guides for what needs to be taught, within the aims, but there is no set sports or activities that they need to teach the kids. So, it seems as if the school are allowed to pick what they do within these classes, as long as it goes along with the guidelines.
I found this PDF that has lots of information put together. However, it still does not explain about how schools choose what sports to teach.
"The Government also does not set a target for how much curriculum time schools must dedicate to PE"
"Pupils in Key Stage 3 receive an average of 124 minutes of curriculum PE each week. Pupils in Key Stage 4 receive an average of 98 minutes."
